Ladies Who Lunch: Alice Spring/Summer 2011 Collection

Let Them Eat Cake!! Yes, the inspiration for the Alice Spring/Summer 2011 Collection was an homage to France’s most famous Queen, Marie Antoinette.  Marie Antoinette, while living in the lap of luxury loved to escape to the Petit Hameau to play “peasant”, gardening, tending sheep, living the simple life.  How nice to have the best of both worlds.  Like Marie Antoinette herself, the collection is a study of contrasts: ultra feminine romantic luxury mixed with some down to earth peasant inspired pieces.

Hand pleated rosettes, bonaz emboidery on laces and tulles, tiers and ruffles were all mixed together with over-alls, playsuits, peasant blouses and motorcycle leathers with faux lace-up details.  All of this comes together to create a look that is feminine and strong at the same time.

Personally, I think that Marie Antoinette got a bad rap and we can all learn a lesson from her on style and playing your opposites to great effect.  Just try not to lose your head over it!!
